The town of Gernsbach

The town of Gernsbach is the historic capital of the lower Murg Valley in the district of Rastatt in Baden-Württemberg. Together with Gaggenau, it forms a medium-sized center in the Middle Upper Rhine region. The state-approved climatic health resort with its historic old town is a portal community of the Central/North Black Forest Nature Park, a center of the paper industry and a residential community with a surplus of commuters.

Gernsbach, first mentioned in a document in 1219, was founded by the Counts of Eberstein and became prosperous thanks to the supra-regional timber trade of the Murg shipping company. Due to the decline of the Ebersteins, who had their seat near the town at Eberstein Castle, Gernsbach was under divided rule or condominium for centuries and effectively became part of the Margraviate of Baden in the 16th century. In the 19th century, Gernsbach was an official town of the Grand Dukes of Baden.

Gernsbach is also a sought-after business location. Thanks to its central location and good transport links, the business locations in the entire surrounding area can be reached quickly and easily.

In addition to the internationally active paper industry and many fast-growing companies, the versatile climatic health resort is home to outstanding training and further education facilities, including Germany’s only paper-making school and the Daimler training center.

We have excellent transport connections with the S-Bahn or via the B 462/A5. For example, you can quickly reach the Karlsruhe technology region (trade fair), Stuttgart (trade fair/airport), Baden-Baden (congress center), Rastatt and many other cities.
